How a discount is calculated
Two quick steps: work out the money off, then take it away from the original price.
Saved = price × (percent ÷ 100)
Sale price = price − saved
So a 25% discount on 2,499 saves 624.75, giving a sale price of 1,874.25. The same method works for any currency — the tool just does the arithmetic for you.
FAQ
How do I calculate a percentage discount?
Multiply the original price by the percentage off divided by 100 to get the amount saved, then subtract that from the original price for the final sale price.
How do I work out two stacked discounts?
Apply them one after another, not by adding the percentages. A 20% then 10% off is 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72 of the price — a 28% total discount, not 30%.
