Tip Calculator

The tip, the new total, and each person's share — worked out in one tap.

How the tip is calculated

Two small steps, then a split:

Tip = bill × (percent ÷ 100)
Total = bill + tip
Per person = total ÷ people

Choose one of the quick percentages or type your own — the custom field wins if you fill it in. Set the number of people to divide the total evenly.

FAQ

How much should I tip?

In the US, 15–20% of the bill is normal for table service, with 20% for good service. Norms differ by country, so check local customs when travelling.

Pre-tax or post-tax?

Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is standard, though many people tip on the full total for simplicity. This tool tips on whatever bill amount you enter.

Does the per-person amount round up?

It shows the exact even split. In practice people often round each share up to the nearest note or coin so the tip is fully covered.
