How we build our calculators

Each calculator states the formula it uses and shows the intermediate steps, so you can check the maths yourself. Where a field has more than one accepted standard — like BMI cut-offs — we let you switch between them rather than hiding the choice.

Formulas are drawn from published, widely accepted sources. When a calculator cannot capture the full picture, the page says so plainly.
